Liberty U. preps for Homecoming Weekend traffic, parking
LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) - Students and countless others love Liberty University's Homecoming Weekend.
"It's gonna be exciting, my parents are coming down, so it should be really nice just to hang out with them, they have a lot of nice things going on here," said LU student Mitchell Rice.
The campus is preparing for a big carnival Friday night, and a parade leading up to the big game Saturday.
"My parents are coming down, so it should be really nice just to hang out with them, and they have a lot of really nice things going on here."
What won't be so nice: the massive crowds and traffic congestion they bring. However, most expect a smooth ride.
"What happened at the beginning of the semester, we oversold on parking, so we pretty much found parking wherever we could. But no, I'm not expecting any problems at all," said Joshua Blevins, another LU student.
Organizers are not worried either, even with a special guest coming to the game.
"We're gonna have William Byron joining us, a NASCAR and Liberty University student," said LU Director of Alumni Relations Tyler Falwell.
They said all the ducks are in a row.
"Parking is available. We encourage our guests to come to the LaHaye Parking Lot," Falwell said, adding there is also plenty of parking near Green Hall for the carnival.
For game day, he said volunteers will also direct traffic at all entrances. Signs will help get people where they're going from the highways.
"There will be a lot more people on campus, but we're used to it," Falwell said.
People can also attend other Homecoming weekend games and events.
"It's really great for our alumni to be able to bring their families back and be able to experience Liberty for the first time for our future alumni," he said.
