Kessler asks for perjury trial to be moved

In October, Kessler was indicted for perjury in connection with an alleged assault charge against another man.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WSET) -- According to WCAV, Jason Kessler is asking to move his trial on a perjury charge.

In October, Kessler was indicted for perjury in connection with an alleged assault charge against another man.

Records showed that Kessler gave a statement to a magistrate saying that he was assaulted by James Taylor while collecting signatures on the Downtown Mall.

According to prosecutors, a video of the incident showed that Kessler's account of the incident was not true.

The charge against Taylor was later dismissed. Kessler then pleaded guilty to an assault charge in April.

The incident did occur within Charlottesville city boundaries, but the perjury indictment came through Albemarle County since the statement alleging the assault was made to a magistrate at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail.

There will be a hearing on the change in January.
