Historic moment: President Trump arrives in Lynchburg on Air Force One

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) - President Donald Trump arrived in Lynchburg around 9:15 a.m.

The 45th President used Air Force One to make the trip from Washington, D.C. to visit Liberty University for their 2017 commencement.

Trump was greeted by the university's President, Jerry Falwell, Jr., and his wife Becky Falwell.

President Trump and the Falwells got into the motorcade and traveled down Route 460 to Liberty.

Trump's speech lasted approximately 40 minutes and then he came back to the to the airport.

Plenty of people were standing at the airport and waiting for the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see Air Force One land in Lynchburg.

"To actually see it come in here with a President on it, it was very exciting and especially when the motorcade came through, very exciting and if anyone missed it, they missed a great big event," Mary Bryant said.

"Lynchburg doesn't see this type of action too often, and it's been great! I was delighted to get here in time to see Air Force One leave, it's really terrific," Willis Neighbors said.

Jerry Falwell, Jr. says he was happy President Trump was able to come speak for commencement.

He said he was happy with how the overall morning went.
