Giles Co. Sheriff's Office investigates human trafficking allegations
GILES Co., Va. (WSET) - Charges are pending against a Newport man after a three-month investigation, according to the Giles County Sheriff's Office.
According to the department's Facebook page, the investigation into Gary Gusler, 54, started in January.
The investigation was originally looking into larceny and check forgery, according to the Sheriff's Office.
During the early stages of the investigation, officials say they learned Gusler may have had a history of posting bond for women in exchange for sex.
Officials say after three months of investigative work, execution of search warrants, and interviews, investigators consulted the case with the Giles County Commonwealth Attorney's Office.
On April 11, the Gusler's case was presented to a grand jury on single charges of abduction with intent to defile, human trafficking, and residing in a bawdy place.
The Sheriff's Office says the investigation is ongoing and that because it is "very sensitive in nature," no other details will be released at this time.
