Former ABC 13 sports anchor, John Organ, passes away at 53

LYNCHBURG (WSET) -- Funeral arrangements have been made for ABC 13's former sports anchor, John Organ.
His service will be held April 1. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the funeral service at 11 a.m. at Living Word Baptist Church, 4130 Waterlick Rd. Forest, Va 24551.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make contributions to the Alan B. Pearson Regional Cancer Center, 1701 Thomson Dr. Lynchburg, Va 24501 or to Living Word Baptist Church.
"I would like to thank everyone for their prayers and messages," John's son wrote on his father's Facebook page. "My father has a lot of loved ones, some I have known for years and some I just recently been introduced to after these unfortunate circumstances."
LYNCHBURG (WSET) -- It is with heavy hearts that we have to report a member of our WSET family has died.
Former weekend sports anchor, John Organ, passed away Saturday at the age of 53.
John served the Lynchburg community here at ABC 13 for 22 years.
"I will miss him terribly," said ABC 13's Sports Director Dennis Carter. "I've lost a true friend...He always had a great joke to tell you."
If you're a long time viewer of WSET, you know John loved hockey - it was his favorite sport.
"John Organ, a smile that filled the room," said our News Director, Len Stevens. "A booming voice, so often filled with laughter."
Those close to him say he died after a battle with cancer.
