Fired up about snow removal; How one local man clears his driveway
AMHERST Co., Va. (WSET) -- One Amherst County guy didn't let the snow stop him from having a little fiery fun.
Many of us have gotten our driveways clear after the snow Wednesday, and most of us used a pretty traditional method to clear it, say a shovel or salt.
But one man wanted no trace of snow.
Nathanael Caplinger torched all the snow out of his driveway.
Caplinger said he hates shoveling the snow so one night at work, while reading a gun magazine, he came upon an ad for a blowtorch and how it's effective, and even advertised, for removing snow.
After he talked with local officials, he found there is no law against using it in Amherst County, so he bought it.
Caplinger said he's pretty happy with it, but stresses he uses it safely.
"Make sure there's no flammables nearby, make sure its only what you want to burn, make sure afterwards hang out for about a half hour, make sure nothing reignites," he said.
Amherst County Public Safety Director Gary Roakes said while this method may not be right for everybody, it's somewhat effective.
Roakes also encourages anyone who are thinking about doing this, to contact your local officials first.
