Family raising funds to get service dog for son with Autism
HALIFAX Co., Va. (WSET) -- A Halifax County family is trying to make day-to-day activities easier for their son, who has Autism.
Kristina Lloyd says her son, Will, was diagnosed with Autism when he was three-years-old.
Now she and her husband are trying to raise enough money to get Will a service dog, which costs $14,000.
To help with that cost, they're holding a fundraiser on Saturday.
The dog could take up to two more years to get, but Lloyd says it's an investment that could help change her son's life.
"It helps with his communications skills because he learns to talk to the dog and communicate with the dog," his mom said. "It helps with what a lot of people call meltdowns where he gets overstimulated."
The fundraiser is Saturday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. at Halifax County High School.
