Electric company warning of scam artists posing as employees, going around to homes
MECKLENBURG, Co., Va. (WSET) -- The Mecklenburg County Electric Cooperative is warning of a scam going around the southside.
They said it's received reports from customers claiming scam artists are posing as MEC employees, attempting to gain access to their homes.
In a Facebook post, MEC wrote that it's very rare an employee would need to get inside your home and when they do, they will schedule an appointment in advance.
Also, they said to remember that all MEC employees are dressed in uniform and have an employee badge with a photo ID and will be driving a marked company vehicle whenever they arrive at your home.
If you feel threatened, call 911 immediately.
