Dozens file mass lawsuit against maker of Essure
RICHMOND, Va. (WSET) -- Dozens, including a Virginia, woman are suing the make of the birth control device, Essure, according to WRIC in Richmond.
It's all because they claim it's caused serious and painful health problems.
31 women from 15 states are involved in the lawsuit.
They all claim their device malfunctioned, puncturing their internal organs and causing a host of problems.
One woman from Newport News said Essure caused her to have serious abdominal pain, back pain, and heavy bleeding.
Some doctors previously said they were having trouble removing the device from patients.
The plaintiffs are asking for a jury trial, and for the company to cover their attorney fees and medical bills and also for any future medical monitoring or tests they may need.
The FDA has ordered a black box warning for Essure.
