Devils Backbone Brewing Company makes philanthropic impact with Heartland Initiative
LEXINGTON, Va. (WSET) -- Devils Backbone Brewing Company announced Tuesday that its Heartland Initiative program contributed over $290,000 to the local community.
Devils Backbone launched its community impact program Heartland Initiative in 2017 to build on a tradition of philanthropy and deepening engagement across the community.
The company donated to and sponsored over 200 community organizations, mainly addressing hunger relief. They said special events raised enough funds to help their partners provide over 148,000 meals to hungry neighbors in need.
Devils Backbone launched two major initiatives that included an internship program with two interns from Virginia Tech and they worked with regional breweries on an inaugural General Certificate in Brewing Class.
In addition, the brewing company contributed over 1,025 hours of community service in Virginia and launched the Heartland Series which is a quarterly brew that benefits a non-profit chosen by staff. The series raised over $13,000.
Also, Devils Backbone supported clean water initiatives by partnering with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, planting 7 million Oysters and filtering up to 350 million gallons of water.
The company said they are thrilled about the road ahead and by 2020 they hope to invest $1 million in their community, volunteer 4,000 hours of service and achieve 20% reduction in barrel of water to barrel of beer ratio.
