Decades old sewer line could soon get an upgrade in Madison Heights
MADISON HEIGHTS, Va. (WSET) -- The more than 80-year-old sewer line on Main Street in Madison Heights could soon get an upgrade.
Officials in Amherst County said the line is near the end of its service life.
The county has applied for a $500,000 Community Development Block Grant to fund the project, but they would have to match $250,000 of it.
$67,000 is already set aside specifically for the design process.
The county said an upgrade would add up to 60 years to the sewer line.
"When you got something that old, you're always going to have problems here and there," said Bob Hopkins, with the Amherst County Service Authority. There's not a real, like a major issue with the issue, but just a lot of little things that take up a lot of time and effort."
The county expects to submit the application in September and will learn if they got it by the end of the year.
There's a public hearing at the Administration Office next Tuesday at 7 p.m.
