Man charged with murder in Christiansburg homicide

CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. (WSET) -- A suspect is in custody and has been charged after a murder in Christiansburg.

Police say his name is 25-year-old Cyron Stokes and he is now charged with first degree murder and malicious wounding.

Police say they got to Oak Tree Boulevard at Anderson Audiology today around 11 a.m. Friday and found Amy Byrd Schrader, 58, of Narrows dead from stab wounds.

Another woman at the business was physically assaulted by the suspect and was transported by ambulance to LewisGale Hospital Montgomery with non-life threatening injuries, according to police. She has been released from the hospital, and we are not releasing her name at this time.

Christiansburg Police began searching for the suspect and the vehicle. At 12:13 p.m., a Christiansburg Police officer passed a vehicle matching the description, and as the officer turned around to follow the vehicle, the vehicle pulled into the parking lot of Amelia’s Pizzeria and Restaurant at 1130 Cambria St NE. The suspect immediately exited the vehicle and fled on foot.

Police say at 12:50 p.m., Stokes was taken into custody after being confronted by police in a residential yard on King Street.

CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. (WSET) - Christiansburg Police are investigating a homicide.

Officials say they got a call at 11:10 Friday morning referencing a woman who was hurt in the 100 block of Oak Tree Boulevard.

Police say the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. They say another woman was taken to LewisGale Hospital Montgomery with non-life threatening injuries.

Christiansburg Police have a suspect in custody.
