Centra's Bedford Memorial Hospital set to open February 15
BEDFORD, VA (WSET) -- Centra's Bedford Memorial Hospital is almost ready to open a new addition to the community.
The $4 million Emergency Department is scheduled to open on February 15.
One of the aspects of this new emergency department is that it will have it's own entrance and will now have 14 rooms instead of the previous 10, brand new medical equipment, as well as furniture.
In 2017, the CEO of Centra's Bedford Memorial Hospital said they saw 17,000 patients in the emergency department and they only expect those numbers to increase.
"We've seen our community rally around our hospital. They're very proud that they have a community hospital. They recognize how important it is to have this hospital in their community, especially when it comes to emergency care, said Patti Jurkus, the CEO of Bedford Memorial Hospital.
Jurkus added their patient satisfaction scores have remained high during the renovation.
"We want the community to know we are here for them not matter what, and we can take care of their medical needs," said Stacey Hopkins the Director of Nursing for the Emergency Department "We do have a pretty significant growth each year, we expect that to continue, as the community grows and the hospital grows, we expect that to increase."
Construction has been going on since May, and during that time, the hospital took emergency patients to a floor in the main hospital. The hospital added four RN's before the temporary move and 10 support staff. All of the new employees will be coming to the new emergency department.
