Campbell County holds wreath laying ceremony for fallen officers
The Campbell County Sheriff's Office honored and remembered one of their own Thursday morning as well as all fallen law enforcement officers.
Deputy Jason Saunders was killed April 3rd, 2007 after crashing his patrol vehicle during a pursuit.
Saunders’ mother Peggy and her husband Dale were at the ceremony. She explained how much she appreciates the sheriff's office for doing this every year to remember her son.
"From the day Jason died my worst thought was people would forget who he is or who he was and this assures me that people won't forget him," Peggy Saunders said. "They remember him all the time, not just today, but he stays in their minds and that means a whole lot to his mother."
Deputy Saunders was 24-years-old when he was killed. He worked within the county since he was 18 and was a deputy for three years.
This ceremony was in conjunction with National Law Enforcement Memorial week.
Campbell County Commonwealth Attorney Paul McAndrews was the guest speaker at the memorial service.
He spoke very highly of Deputy Saunders and said, "We owe these officers our grace, our prayers and our eternal gratitude."
