Police: 20-year-old flown to hospital after vehicle collides with train in Appomattox
UPDATE: 7:30 a.m.
Virginia State Police have identified the driver as Goldie Jones, 20, of Amherst.
Jones was taken to Lynchburg General Hospital and then flown to UVA Medical center for treatment of life-threatening injuries.
The Appomattox County Public Safety Director said Jones was ejected from the vehicle during the crash.
Police said the train was not damaged in the crash.
They also said the railroad has a posted stop sign.
The crash remains under investigation.
APPOMATTOX Co., Va. (WSET) -- A 20-year-old woman has been taken to the hospital after state police said her vehicle collided with a Norfolk Southern train in Appomattox County.
Police said the woman was trying to turn around on the tracks when the train slammed into her vehicle just off Route 460 in Spout Spring.
This happened just around 5:19 a.m. on Thursday, March 8.
The collision caused the vehicle to flip over.
There is no word about the extent of her injuries.
State Police said they are investigating.
