Boyfriend arrested after woman found dead along Va. road
LOUISA COUNTY, Va. (WSET) -- A Louisa County man is facing second-degree murder charges after police said his girlfriend was found dead along the side of the road Friday morning.
Investigators said a 40-year-old woman was found dead around 8 a.m. by people who live in the area.
“It appears as though she’d been struck by a vehicle and was deceased,” Louisa Major Donnie Lowe said to WTVR in Richmond.
The Louisa County Sheriff's Office said it later determined that the hit-and-run incident happened around midnight Friday.
Deputies said Gregory Veres, 30, was the victim's boyfriend and the driver of the vehicle who they said left the scene after hitting her.
Veres was taken into custody and questioned by investigators after he called them Friday morning reporting that his car was heavily damaged.
Police said he was then charged with second-degree murder and is currently being held without bond at the Central Virginia Regional Jail in Orange County.
The victim has not been identified pending notification of next of kin, who police said live out of state.
