A new track possibly coming to Danville could bring more opportunity
DANVILLE, Va. (WSET) -- The Danville Mayor's Special Committee on Sports Tourism is pushing to add a brand new running track to the city.
City councilman Lee Vogler said they have been looking to add an updated track facility for a while.
According to Vogler, Averett University is interested in partnering with the city to help make it happen.
He said the track could be behind the J. M. Langston School and can bring many benefits to Danville.
"There's a lot of opportunities for tournaments to come in on the weekend. AAU tournaments, when it comes to track and field for the summer. That brings in revenue to the city. That fills up the hotels. That fills up the restaurants. That's great for Danville as a whole," Vogler said.
The next steps are to bring the recommendations to city council and see how the track would fit in this year's upcoming budget.
