47-year-old woman killed, 2 hospitalized after crash in Danville
DANVILLE, Va. (WSET) -- Danville Police say 47-year-old woman is dead and two others were taken to the hospital after a two-vehicle crash in Danville on Wednesday.
The crash happened on Mt. Cross Road near the city line with Pittsylvania County; the road was closed for several hours as crews worked to clear the scene and recreate the crash.
A witness reported that there were two vehicles involved and it looked like a head-on collision, but that has not been confirmed by police.
Police say Kelly M. Ferguson, 47, of Pittsylvania County died at the scene.
According to the Danville Police Department, Ferguson was a passenger in a car involved in the crash.
The investigation revealed that car was traveling southbound when it briefly ran off the road and went broadside into the path of a Jeep that was traveling northbound.
Police say the car's driver was taken to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for treatment.
They say the person driving the Jeep was taken to Duke for treatment.
Danville police weren't able to comment on the status of those injuries.
They say a passenger in the Jeep was treated at released at the scene by SOVAH Health.
