Health Check: Recommended Salt Intake

You might want to hold the salt with dinner. It can really add up.

A new study published in the New England Journal of Medicine looks at the impact of high salt intake. The World Health Organization recommends you eat no more than two grams of sodium a day.

On average, Americans have almost twice the recommended amount. And nearly 58,000 Americans die every year as a result of diseases linked to having too much salt. That adds up. The study says sticking to the recommended salt intake could save 1.65 million lives a year worldwide.
