Mommy Monday: Virginia Baptist Helps Meet Growing Demand for Families

Lynchburg, VA - The Lynchburg area is booming with babies. Around 2,500 bundles of joy are born every year at Virginia Baptist Hospital. Now there's a new resource for all those growing families.

ABC 13 News got to tour Virginia Baptist's new Childbirth and Family Education Center before they open it up to the public next month.

Virginia Baptist worked with Children's Miracle Network for the funding to build this new facility.

It's a spot to hold all of their classes -- like breastfeeding, birthing, support groups and sibling courses.

But coordinator Brenda Osterhus said they hope to move beyond that and encompass the whole family.

"We hope to expand," Osterhus explained. "We hope to offer even more classes to a greater number and that's part of the family education component of it with some nutrition classes and cooking classes in our new kitchen."

One of the classes they're offering already is the Safe Sitter class March 23 and April 27 from 9:00 a.m - 4:30 p.m.
