Mommy Monday: Unpasteurized Milk
Lynchburg, VA - A newly released statement straight from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) talks about the dangers of unpasteurized products.
It specifically targets pregnant women, infants, and children.
Academy experts warn that you should only drink pasteurized milk and milk products, and they support a ban on the sale of raw milk here in the U.S.
Today only about 1 to 3% of all dairy products in the U.S. are unpasteurized.
So what's behind the recommendation?
The AAP says that type of milk can lead to several food bourne illnesses.
The illnesses can be deadly because the raw milk can have listeria, salmonella, and even E. Coli.
In pregnant women, the microorganisms in raw milk can even lead to preterm delivery, stillbirths, and miscarriages.
