Youth Learn Advanced Manufacturing at Summer Camp
South Boston,VA-- A lot of young people use summer break to do internships to get some work experience. Thanks to the Workforce Investment Act, a group of under-privileged youth are also getting some work experience this summer in advanced manufacturing.
They're spending the week at the Southern Virginia Higher Education Center at the Dream It Do it Summer Camp.
They've did a lot of interactive learning on field trips and have also been working on designing and building clocks all week.
"They're getting to see how it's like in the real world," said Christin Jackson, Coordinator of WIA Adult and Youth Programs. "At the end of this program, they'll have experience from advanced manufacturing from Dream it Do It, but also with an employer they've been working with will be able to write them a lovely letter for a resume to get a job in the future,"
The group that builds the most quality clocks by the end of the camp will get a $100 dollar gift card to Walmart.
