WWII Vet Bob Slaughter Dies

Bedford, VA - Well-known World War II veteran and author Bob Slaughter has passed away.

Officials at the National D-Day Memorial say Slaughter had gotten sick and died in Roanoke Tuesday. He was 87 years old.

Slaughter played a big role in campaigning to bring the National D-Day Memorial to Bedford.

He wrote a book about his time at war called Omaha Beach and Beyond: 'The Long March of Sergeant Bob Slaughter.'

There is no word on funeral arrangements at this time.
