Woman Pleads Guilty to Murder of Former Republican Party Leader
Martinsville, VA - A Martinsville woman has pleaded guilty to second degree murder in the death of a Henry County businessman and former Republican Party chair.
Amanda Alexander was sentenced Tuesday to 40 years, but the judge suspended 15.
Police found Donald Lawson dead in his home last May after they responded to a burglary call. His van was missing and was later found in Henrico County.
Lawson had been the chair of the party for 14 years.
Kenneth Smith, a man who had worked for Lawson, was sentenced to life in prison in July after pleading guilty to capital murder.
