Woman Airlifted to Hospital After Bedford Co. Crash

Bedford Co., VA - A woman is recovering after crashing her car on Route 24 in Bedford County Saturday night.

Sergeant Jason Deckard with the Virginia State Police identified the woman as Katherine Hayslett, 58, of Bedford.

Sgt. Deckard says the wreck happened just after 8 p.m. when Hayslett was headed west on Route 24. Police say she ran off the right side of the road, over corrected, and hit a bridge that runs over Curby Branch Creek.

Hayslett was airlifted to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital where she is listed in good condition.

Police also say Hayslett was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, and she was the only person in the car.

Sergeant Deckard says charges are pending.

Hayslett could be facing reckless driving, or improper lane use, as well as a charge for not wearing a seat belt.

Sgt. Deckard attributes the crash to driver distraction.
