Wirtz Man Sentenced on Moonshine Operation in Franklin Co.
Franklin Co., VA - A Wirtz man has gotten a suspended sentence for running a small moonshining operation in Franklin County.
Lester Hodge, 44, pleaded guilty in November to illegally manufacturing the alcohol and possessing a sawed-off shotgun.
Hodge was sentenced Thursday to 10 years and $2,500 in fines, but the judge suspended all the prison time and all but a $1,000 of the fine.
Hodge will be on supervised probation for 18 months and cannot use or possess alcohol.
The Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control raided Hodges' home back in June and found more than 13 gallons of untaxed liquor.
