Winning Million Dollar Ticket Holder Comes Forward

Farmville, VA - Virginia's latest millionaire came forward Friday.

John Humphries, III, 24, lives in Danville but won his million dollars buying a lottery ticket in South Boston.

ABC 13 Photojournalist Ira Quillen was on hand in Farmville Friday morning as Humphries came forward and picked up his check.

I can't think of a better way to start 2014 than to introduce you to the Virginia Lottery's newest millionaire," said Paula Otto with the Virginia Lottery. "I would like to hand you this big ceremonial check and congratulate you on being a Virginia Lottery millionaire."

"I am a very cynical person, so I didn't believe it. I called a couple of times and had a couple of other people call for me a couple of times just to make sure I wasn't going insane," Humphries said.

"There were a total of 330,000 tickets, no more. So, actually in the lottery world, those are pretty good odds," said John Hagerty with the Virginia Lottery. "Three one million dollar winners out of 330,000 tickets. And he was lucky, he got one of them."
