Lynchburg, VA - In Lynchburg, things are worsening, as Sandy continues blasting much of the north east.

And with worsening weather conditions, we can expect to see more power outages.

The wind really picked up in speed Monday night. As for the rain, it remained pretty constant all night.

Wind, locally, is what is now causing more and more power outages throughout our area.

Earlier Monday, a few thousand Appalachian customers to the west lost electricity; many of those customers were in the dark because of snow, in higher elevations.

Now with the wind picking up in Lynchburg, further east, we're seeing more and more outages closer to the Hill City.

AEP is reporting more than 5,000 customers without power in Virginia. Locally, that equates to more than 100 people in the dark in Amherst County, more than 400 in Bedford, 600 in Franklin, 340 in Floyd.

More than 140 out in Henry County, almost 500 out in Roanoke County, and nearly 400 out in Roanoke City.

V-Dot is asking everyone to limit any travel and if possible, to stay indoors.
