Lynchburg, VA - West Lynchburg Baptist Church prepared Thanksgiving meals for 300 people Thursday.
Volunteers were busy cooking since 6 a.m. They baked more than 300 loaves of bread, 20 turkeys and pounds of stuffing all to give to those in need for free.
They served from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.
The church periodically will serve free meals to the public, but not typically on Thanksgiving.
That was until one church member suggested it to the parish, and slowly, more than 40 volunteers signed on.
"We're here to serve the community. Not be a brick building where people are afraid to come in because we're not doing anything for it," said Daniel Schmucker, who organized the meal.
