Warmer Weather Bringing Out Black Snakes

BEDFORD CO., VA - When a snake knocked at the door, one Bedford County woman didn't answer. She did snap a few pictures, though.

Julie Parker was inside her house on Parker Road when she saw the black snake peeking through the door window yesterday.

Parker thinks the snake had been curled up inside a butter churn on her porch.

A wildlife biologist with the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries says snakes are becoming more active as the weather warms up.

He says they're not poisonous, but will bite if they feel threatened.
