VT's Offensive Line Will Be Key
Blacksburg - Question marks surround the Virginia Tech offense but coach Frank Beamer is hoping the offensive line is not one of them. He said, "I think effort won't be a problem in there and toughness won't be a problem in there."
Jeff Grimes is in charge of the line and he said the depth chart will change on an almost daily basis but Beamer said after Tech's first preseason practice that the coaching staff has a pretty good understanding for which players will crack the starting five up front.

Other News and Notes from Day One:
Antone Exum will not play versus Alabama or anyone else in Tech's September schedule. His surgically repaired knee will be reevaluated in two months and Tech is hopeful he'll be ready for the ACC opener.
Logan Thomas is the one who leads the "1-2-3 Championship" chant at the end of practice.
A number of players had to do up-downs after practice for reasons undisclosed to the media but two of the players were defensive starters James Gayle and Kyle Fuller.
Joel Caleb has moved from wide receiver to running back. Running backs coach Shane Beamer said the move could be temporary or permanent but Frank Beamer said after one practice that he thinks they're on the right track with moving Caleb to tail back. He is a bigger back and with the departure of Michael Holmes, Trey Edmunds is the only big back Tech has.
