"I am extremely disappointed for Malik, " Virginia Tech head men's basketball coach James Johnson said. "This young man has worked very hard this summer both in workouts and in the classroom. I know that Malik will use this year to improve as a better basketball player and will continue his strong work in his academics. He will help this team in practice and from the sidelines."
Mueller, a native of Ehingen, Germany, will have four years of eligibility available when he is permitted to begin competing in games in the Fall of 2014. Due to federal privacy laws regarding students' academic issues, this will be the only comment about the situation by any member of the Virginia Tech Athletics staff.
