VT Basketball Hires Marquette's Buzz Williams as New Coach

Blacksburg - It's official. Virginia Tech has hired Marquette's Buzz Williams as the Hokies' new head basketball coach.

Williams comes to Blacksburg after six seasons leading Marquette. The 41-year-old took the Golden Eagles to the NCAA Tournament his first five seasons, including the Elite Eight last year. Marquette missed out this season at 17-and-15. Williams will be introduced this Monday night at 6 on the arena floor at Cassell Coliseum. The event will be open to the public and students.

Williams' record at Marquette in six seasons was 139-and-69. His first year as a head coach came at New Orleans in the 2006-07 season when he posted a 14-and-17 record. Before New Orleans, Williams was an assistant at Texas A&M and previously at Colorado State.
