Lynchburg, VA - Day of Caring has become an annual tradition in Central Virginia, and Wednesday is the 20th anniversary.
A group painted the playground for students at Paul Munro Elementary in Lynchburg. Day of Caring is all about projects like this.
Organizations submit work they need done but don't have the time, money or people to do, and volunteers pitch in to help.
The group is from Bank of the James, and they are one of about 1,000 volunteers doing projects all over our hometown.
"United Way's got projects going on throughout the city, a lot of organizations are taking part and everyone's doing their part to make the community a better place to live," said Patrick Richardson, treasurer of UWCV.
United Way says this is the largest one-day volunteer opportunity of its kind.
