Lynchburg, VA - A new football league's kicking off in Central Virginia and some big names are backing it. Philadelphia Eagles' quarterback Michael Vick is one.
The league's called Central Virginia Elite. 200 seven to 12 year-olds have already signed up. But, slots are still open, and the league still needs more money.
Organizers want to raise $42,000, so Friday in the E.C. Glass auditorium they're having a show called Virginia's Finest Meet and Greet. It's $25, starts at 7 p.m. and will feature speeches from Cornell Brown and Vick, among others.
"There are people that you see on TV that care about your well-being. We want them just to feel if they made it out of Lynchburg, or they made it out of these surrounding counties, out of Virginia, then we can make it too. That's all," said Andre Kendrick, founder of Central Virginia Elite.
If you want to join the league, you can call (434) 664-4014. The first practice is July 15th.
