Lynchburg, VA - A local Lynchburg organization needs your help to recognize and honor African Americans who have earned a Purple Heart.
The Military Order of the Purple Heart in Lynchburg is hosting a gathering in order to capture a picture of the group of recipients. It will take place on February 22 at noon at Monument Terrace in Lynchburg.
The purple heart is an award given to those who were wounded or killed while serving in the military."It dispels a lot of the myths that African Americans couldn't serve in a war and didn't deserve an opportunity even," said Sam Mosley, Korean War Veteran.
Mosley, who was featured in our Heroes from the Heart of Virginia segment in 2011 received his Purple Heart in 1952.
