Lynchburg, VA - Veterans at Lynchburg's Monument Terrace decided to add on to their usual Friday gathering downtown and take time to remember the Sandy Hook victims.
They held 26 American flags, one for each victim.
One by one, they read the names aloud and then placed them in a wreath.
They also read a poem written specifically for those who died at Sandy Hook, last week.
Folks at the event say moments like this remind them to be thankful.
"This Christmas morning when we're getting ready to open our gifts, we need to all stop and have a prayer and just thank God that we're here but also to remember the family and friends of these special people," said Carol Tyree, event organizer."
Woodmen of the World provided the flags for the ceremony.
