      Verizon Worker Hit in Chatham While Repairing Line

      Chatham, VA - A Verizon worker was hit by a vehicle while repairing some downed phone lines near Route 29 in Chatham Wednesday afternoon.

      Virginia State Police responded to the scene a around 1:30 p.m.

      Officials say Travis Carter, 22, veered off the road and hit the employee who was repairing lines that were damaged after a tractor trailer overturned last week.

      Carter was charged with reckless driving.

      The Verizon worker was transported to a local hospital with a leg injury, but he is expected to recover.
