Lynchburg, VA - The Virginia Department of Transportation is hoping to catch drivers attention with a little humor.
The overall point is to promote workzone awareness week.
They put on a role reversal in video for people to see what it's like to be in their shoes.
Road construction has pretty much become part of the Lynchburg landscape. Some drivers hate it so much, they have to call and complain about it.
"They'll call here or the customer service center. We have had motorists stop or yell things when they pass by. Our flaggers get to hear a lot of comments" said Paula Jones with VDOT.
So what if roadside workers moved inside? The video shows VDOT's take on it.
"I think It's a delightful and creative way to look at a very serious situation," said Jones referring to the video.
In the public service announcement, VDOT turns the tables and the construction workers are now the ones doing the complaining.
Jones says VDOT wants to relay the message that we are all in this together.
They want to finish each project just as fast as we do. But we have to do it safely.
"We're trying to keep the roads safe for motorists. We're asking them to do the same for our guys working on those roads," said Jones.
"With construction sometimes they have to wait for different supplies to come in so I get it," said Tish Anthony, a Lynchburg resident.
There are a lot of rules and regulations for how many people have to be on the job.
One of those jobs is monitoring so the ones that look like they're just watching are actually required to.
