VDOT to Hold Public Hearing on Bridge Renovation

Campbell County, VA - VDOT wants to hear from you about a possible bridge project in Campbell County.

They want to redesign a bridge on Route 711 over the Norfolk Southern Railroad.

Officials want to take it from one lane to two and extend it.

During construction, the road would be closed and traffic detoured.

There is no funding for this yet.

But VDOT wants you to come out on April 30th from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Altavista Train Station to tell them your thoughts.

That's at 414 Washington Street.

The hearing will be held in an open-house format with no formal presentation given. VDOT representatives will be present to discuss the proposed project and to answer questions.

The existing bridge is a single lane structure with reduced roadway width and an 8-ton weight restriction.

The proposed bridge would be a two lane truss bridge on the same alignment with slight improvements to the alignment toward Leesville Road. The proposed bridge would be approximately 184 feet long and 22 feet wide.

Comments about the proposed project may be submitted at the hearing or until May 10, 2013 by mailing them to Laura Walton, Project Manager, Virginia Department of Transportation, 4219 Campbell Avenue, Lynchburg, Va., 24501. Comments also can be emailed to Please reference "Route 711 over Norfolk Southern Railroad Public Hearing Comment" in the subject heading.
