Lynchburg, VA - The first widespread winter event this season had VDOT crews working hard Wednesday.
Spokesperson Paula Jones has her team keeping a close watch on our roads, especially in higher elevations in Amherst and Nelson Counties, even Highway 29 in Madison Heights was dicey Wednesday afternoon.
As of Wednesday afternoon, this weather event has been a bit of a mixed bag. Full VDOT crews are on-call and ready, monitoring ten counties in our area. Where salt is needed, crews will put it down.
"Our guys and gals are out there, and they're prepared in advance for any conditions. Before they left for the holidays, they got their trucks ready, they got their chemicals out that they could possibly need. They know where everything is, they know what to do, and that's the good part: they were ready for whatever," said Jones.
You can call 511 for up to date road conditions.
