VDOT Looking Into Widening I-81 in Roanoke, Botetourt Counties

Roanoke, VA - Virginia highway officials are expanding the study into the possibility of widening Interstate 81 in the Roanoke Valley.

The Virginia Department of Transportation said Friday the study has been expanded to include additional interstate mileage in Roanoke and Botetourt counties.

Officials say that a consultant hired to do the study advised the agency that the additional mileage are much like the original study area in terms of traffic volumes and commuting patterns.

The study will look at the environmental impacts of adding up to two northbound and two southbound lanes to I-81 in the Roanoke region.
