Vandals Strike in Boonsboro

Lynchburg, VA - A vandalism spree in the Boonsboro area has Lynchburg police searching for the people responsible. Officers responded to nearly a dozen acts of property damage in a single night.

Most of it came down to thousands of dollars in broken windows. The vandals smashed out glass in cars and at a vacant home, and even broke the headlight of a Harley Davidson motorcycle.

James Thompson says they hit him where it hurts.

"This is pretty much my pride and joy. It's basically brand new. I've had it about a year," said Thompson.

Last week, he found his broken Harley headlight, which was just a small part of an all-night vandalism rampage.

"What goes around comes around and I hope that they get theirs real soon," said Thompson.

The vandals broke out windows at{}a vacant house, several car windows on side streets and even snapped portable soccer goals on the field at Paul Munroe Elementary School.

"You are talking school equipment that our tax dollars pay for and it is really not funny," said Det. D.L. Couch.

Couch believes it was probably kids on a joyride.

"You can't think of any rational reason why anyone would do it but that's why I tend to lean toward maybe younger people doing this just being ornery," said Couch.

If it was teenagers, someone may already know who did it.

"Kids do tend to brag and loose lips can sink a ship," said Thompson.

Thompson is counting on them slipping up so he can get a measure of justice.

"Anybody who does something wrong, does it long enough until they get caught and that's the only thing I can hope for," said Thompson.

Thompson and many of the other victims do have insurance but they still have to pay a deductible. And they say they have to make time for the repairs, in an already busy holiday season.
