UVa Baseball Beats Towson 5-3

Charlottesville - Virginia used a four-run third inning to wipe out a 3-0 deficit and the Cavaliers beat visiting Towson 5-3 in college baseball Wednesday.

Nick Howard's two-run single in the bottom of the fourth gave Virginia the lead for good and later the junior picked up his fifth save on the mound.

Kurt Wertz had given Towson a 3-0 lead in the first inning after blasting a two-run homer off UVa's David Rosenberger.

Thanks to Virginia's four runs in the bottom of the third to take the lead, Rosenberger would pick up his first win of the season, pitching four innings.

Virginia's bullpen was stellar, allowing just one hit, no runs and striking out 7. Whit Mayberry pitched three innings of no-hit relief, Austin Young one inning and Howard the final inning, allowing one hit before retiring the next three batters, striking out two.

Virginia improves to 16-3, Towson drops to 9-7. UVa travels to Miami this weekend for a three-game ACC series.
