Uptick of Car Break-Ins in Lynchburg

Lynchburg, VA - Lynchburg police are warning people about an increase in car break-ins.

Officers are seeing the break-ins throughout the city with a wide variety of suspects involved. Many are targeting unlocked cars. Only some are going as far as smashing windows to grab goods.

Police recommend not keeping valuables in your car where people can see them, especially firearms.

If you see people walking around that just don't belong there, that you don't see on a normal basis, then give us a call and let us identify who they are, what they are doing in the area," said Detective Todd Rodes with the Lynchburg Police Department.

Despite the recent increase in break-ins, numbers show over the last three years, car break-ins have steadily gone down over the long term.
