Update: Two People Airlifted to Hospital After Crash on Route 43 Near Bedford

Bedford Co., VA - Two people were airlifted to the hospital Friday morning after a bad crash in Bedford County.

State police say it happened around 8:20 a.m. on Route 43.

They say an SUV crossed the middle line and hit a car head on.

State police say both drivers had to be extricated, and both were flown to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Each has borderline critical injuries, according to state police.

They also say the driver of the SUV was not wearing a seat belt, and the driver of the car was wearing a seat belt.

State police say the driver at fault had just gotten off a midnight shift.

There is no word on charges just yet.

As of 10:15 a.m. Route 43 is back open.


Bedford Co., VA - Police and EMS crews are on the scene of a serious crash in Bedford County.

V-DOT is reporting it on Route 43 near Parker Road.

Both lanes are shut down at this time.
