Update: Two Killed in Roanoke Co. Crash

Update: 4:54 p.m.

Police have identified the two young men killed in an early morning crash that critically injured a third in Roanoke County.

They say 18-year old Danial Buckner, of Franklin County, and 20-year old Jefferson Elliot of Roanoke County were killed in that crash.

The accident happened on Merriman Road near the intersection with Chaparrel Drive.

A third person, identified just as a juvenile, is in the hospital in critical condition. Police say he was the driver.

A fourth person, also a juvenile, was able to escape unharmed.

Police say the vehicle was speeding down Merriman Road, westbound, when they say the driver lost control.

One of the young men was ejected.

It all happened just after 4:30 this morning.

The accident also knocked down a power pole that left at one point around 700 people without power for at least a few hours.

Power website shows all power has been restored.


Update: 7:57 a.m.

Roanoke Co., VA - Roanoke County officials say two people were killed in an overnight crash on Merriman Road.

When police responded to the accident, officers found an overturned vehicle with four people inside. Two were killed. One person was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Police say a fourth person was not hurt.

No identities have been released.

Police believe speed was a factor in the crash.

Police responded to the scene about 4:45 a.m. Monday in the 5900 block of Merriman Road.
No word on when power will be restored.
