Update: Victims of Route 501 Fatal Crash Identified
UPDATE 10:50 a.m.Campbell County, VA - 21 year old Cliff B. Maresco and 24 year old Trinity D. Burks, both Lynchburg residents have been identified by Virginia State Police as the two people killed in the crash on 501.Virginia State Police were notified of the crash located at the intersection of Route 501 and Bocock Road in Campbell County at around 6:45 p.m. According to a preliminary report, a Suzuki GSXR Motorcycle, driven by Maresco, was traveling north on Route 501. Witnesses report the motorcycle was speeding. A vehicle traveling west on Bocock Road was attempting to cross the northbound lanes when it was struck by the motorcycle on the driver's side. The impact caused the vehicle to overturn. The motorcycle operator, who was wearing a helmet, died at the scene.The vehicle was driven by Burks. She was transported to Lynchburg General Hospital, where she later died. She was wearing a seatbelt. At this time, alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash, according to police.---------UPDATE 9:46 a.m.Campbell County, VA - ABC-13 News has confirmed two people died in Monday evening's crash on Route 501.State Police said Monday evening the driver of a motorcycle died on the scene. Tuesday morning, we learned the driver of the other vehicle involved in the accident, an unidentified woman, later died at Lynchburg General Hospital.---------UPDATE: 9:00 p.m.Campbell County, VA - One man is dead and a woman is in the hospital after a crash on 501 Monday night.State police say a man driving a motorcycle was heading north on 501 when he collided with a woman driving a car that was coming off Bocock Road in Campbell County around 6:45 p.m.Troopers say the male motorcycle driver was pronounced dead on arrival.Police say the female driver was taken to Lynchburg General and her condition is unknown.No charges have been filed yet, but witnesses say the scene was a scary one.Iuwanti Myers says, "He was going pretty fast. And they collided. He smacked the side of her car and they flipped over and the car landed on top of him"James C. Scott says, "I see the car flipping. So I ran over to the car and I could see this guy who's pinned up under the car.
