UPDATE: Southbound Lanes Back Open after Accident, Traffic Still Backed -Up

Carroll Co, VA - According to Virginia State Police out of Bristol, the southbound lanes of I-77 are now passable after a multi-car accident that involved three vehicles and two tractor trailers.
State police refused to comment on what may have caused the accident and whether or not there were any injuries as of this writing.
A detour was in place for motorists, but has now been lifted. Despite the lanes opening back up, VDOT is still advising people to prepare for major back-ups until the normal flow of traffic returns.
Carroll Co, VA - Traffic is backed up for 12 miles following a traffic accident near mile marker three on Interstate 77 south Saturday afternoon.
According to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), the incident involves two tractor trailers and three other vehicles.
A detour has been put in place at exit 8, but is not suitable for tractor trailers.
No word yet on any injuries or when VDOT plans to have the southbound lanes open again.
