UPDATE: 11:52 a.m.
Roanoke, VA - While the first day of school was uneventful for most Roanoke City students, kids at Fallon Park Elementary had a little more to talk about as they were under a "shelter in place" order for most of the morning.
Roanoke Police confirm that they informed school officials that a team would be serving a warrant at a nearby house.
Because the location was close to Fallon Park Elementary, Roanoke Police say they were taking extra precautions in arresting Dale Lee Thomas, 56, of Roanoke.
At approximately 10:30 a.m., Thomas was taken into custody without incident. Thomas was taken to Carilion Roanoke Memorial for evaluation.
The Roanoke Police Department worked together with Roanoke City Public Schools throughout the incident.
The district then made the decision to issue the order, which is not a lock down order, but basically keeps the kids in the school for the duration of the order.
The order has since been lifted.
